INTRODUCTION
First things first- I got in!! Now you’re probably wondering why this is such a big deal, and I’ll get into that but let me give a little insight on what the HNG internship is about.
HNGi8 is an initiative of Hotels.ng (a startup by Mark Essien) partnering with Ingressive for Good (I4G). It is a 3-month remote internship designed to find and develop the most talented software developers and UX/UI designers. You can find out more about the internship here.
Why is this important to me? I’ll tell you. I started my tech journey with an intensive training organised by I4G and The Zuri Team in March this year. Applying for HNGi8 immediately after was the most natural thing to do, so I enrolled for the Frontend track.
MY EXPECTATIONS
HNGi8 has officially kicked off, and everyone keeps talking about how difficult it will be. Though I don’t take it to heart, I do expect it to be challenging. I know that I will be tested in every way possible, but that’s the point, right? I expect to experience growth and learn a lot about team work.
MY GOALS FOR THE INTERNSHIP
Now you know there’s no success without a plan or at least a clear vision, so here are the things I hope to achieve in the next 8 weeks of this internship:
NETWORKING: I am looking to expand my network. As someone who is transitioning into tech, it is important for me to build a network, a support system of sorts. I am already meeting a lot of amazing developers and the possibilities are endless.
SKILLS: I intend to sharpen my programming skills as well as problem-solving skills by working on real life problems.
PORTFOLIO: I intend to use this opportunity to work on projects that will add value to my portfolio. This is really important to me.
HNG FINALIST: This one is obvious. Becoming a HNG finalist brings a lot of opportunities (also, I strongly believe that the colour of the HNG finalist shirt would compliment my eyes).
